How Gen2 Apprenticeships Work

If you’re thinking about applying for one of our apprenticeships in Cumbria then you will probably want to know a bit more information about what becoming an apprentice really means and what our apprenticeship programmes consist of.

The first thing to remember is that when undertaking an apprenticeship you will have real on-the-job training. You will become qualified whilst receiving a wage and getting your first step onto a career ladder with real prospects. What’s more, you’ll be gaining skills and qualifications that are recognised by employers nationally.

Most of our intermediate apprenticeships last for between 1 and 2 years and usually consist of a minimum of 30 hours of paid employment after your first year, on-site at the employer’s base, working and being trained at the same time. You will then usually have one day where you will attend one of our skills centres in Cumbria to study for your technical certificates. The structure of our programmes can vary though so it is best to have a look through our apprenticeships brochure to find out the structure of your preferred industry.

During the apprenticeship, if you have the ability, you can progress from an Apprenticeship to an Advanced Apprenticeship and from there you can continue with further learning, to gain higher qualifications all the way to university and beyond if you so desire.
